Flatland Part 2: The People of Flatland

In Flatland there is a social hierarchy and to put in simplest form, it looks like this:

  1. Circles (priests)
  2. Polygons with many sides but not enough to be circles (nobility)
  3. Hexagons (nobility)
  4. Pentagons (business men)
  5. Squares (businessmen)
  6. Equilateral triangles (middle class)
  7. Isosceles (soldiers and workmen)
  8. Straight lines (women)
Circles being the highest, straight lines being the lowest. I'm not going to go into a great amount of detail on each group, because that would take a very long time to go through, but I will give a brief summary of the people and the history of flatland.

First off, the circles. The circles or our "Priests," are the smartest of the people in flatland. They hold all the knowledge in flatland and are considered the rulers o flatland.

The many sided polygons and the Hexagons make up the nobility. They are smarter than the rest of the population, and are given more knowledge than those below them, but not as much as the circles.

The Pentagons and Squares are the business men, and make up the lower upper class, and while they are smart, they are not nearly as smart us the upper classes.

The Isosceles group is among the dumbest and the lowest class and is the soldiers and the workmen. The straight lines, the women, are the lowest, and are emotionally unstable and the dumbest.
