Last Post

This is my last post to this blog, linking to a copy of the journal that I posted online, because I am worried that the circles will find me out. They have already been giving some suspicious looks, and i am worried that they may realize what I have done soon. My only hope is that the writer of the journal's wishes will come true, and people will believe that there is in fact a 3rd dimension after reading this. Please do not dismiss it as nonsense, because it contains truths that are not limited to our small 2nd dimension.

Flatland: A romance of many dimensions

Spaceland: How the Journal Explained It

Very recently I found an old journal in a box in our cellar. Its contents described a world higher than that of the 2nd dimension, a world in which shapes could be "Upward but not Northward," a concept that I myself do not completely understand, all i know is that people of flatland can not see the difference between a 3rd and 2nd dimensional object unless they feel it. The journal also shows that the writer speculates that there could also be a fourth dimension, but that a "Sphere" that showed the writer about the third dimension claimed it as impossible. It would make sense though if such a thing were real, because if there is a dimension that is the geometric eqivalent of 3 cubed, who's to say there can't be a dimension that is the geometric equivalent of 3 quadrupuled?

Flatland Part 3: The History of Flatland

Flatland has always been ruled by the circles, as deemed by the laws of nature, as they are the smartest. But at one time there was a color war. I will not be writing very much about the color war, as it is a very long and complicated story but I will explain to you as much as I can.

People don't quite know exactly how the idea of painting your sides was brought about, but it is suspected that a square was once painting his house and accidentally spilled paint on himself and thought that it looked nice and started painting himself before going out in public. Nevertheless, it eventually developed and became a bigger and broader idea and eventually the different classes painted themselves different colors based off of what state you lived in.

In the end the circles were not pleased with this because it eradicated their importance and they managed to gain back their power by killing off a bunch of people and outlawing color identification.

Flatland Part 2: The People of Flatland

In Flatland there is a social hierarchy and to put in simplest form, it looks like this:

  1. Circles (priests)
  2. Polygons with many sides but not enough to be circles (nobility)
  3. Hexagons (nobility)
  4. Pentagons (business men)
  5. Squares (businessmen)
  6. Equilateral triangles (middle class)
  7. Isosceles (soldiers and workmen)
  8. Straight lines (women)
Circles being the highest, straight lines being the lowest. I'm not going to go into a great amount of detail on each group, because that would take a very long time to go through, but I will give a brief summary of the people and the history of flatland.

First off, the circles. The circles or our "Priests," are the smartest of the people in flatland. They hold all the knowledge in flatland and are considered the rulers o flatland.

The many sided polygons and the Hexagons make up the nobility. They are smarter than the rest of the population, and are given more knowledge than those below them, but not as much as the circles.

The Pentagons and Squares are the business men, and make up the lower upper class, and while they are smart, they are not nearly as smart us the upper classes.

The Isosceles group is among the dumbest and the lowest class and is the soldiers and the workmen. The straight lines, the women, are the lowest, and are emotionally unstable and the dumbest.

Flatland Part 1: How our world looks

Flatland is a two dimensional world. Everything we look at looks like either a line or a blank space.
If you were looking down on our world it would look something like this:

Almost like a house plan, it is completely flat. Shapes that are squares and above, like myself, can identify people by looking at them, where as women and isosceles triangles have to identify things and other people by feeling. Feeling, meaning rubbing against them.

The thing about our women, is that they are straight lines, meaning that if you were to look at them from one of their points, you wouldn't be able to see them at all. In order to keep that from happening, women are to shake one end of their bodies at all times when around other in order to allow others to see them, and not accidentally impale themselves.

So, in the simplest and fastest way I can put this, the way our world looks to us is a bunch of lines, without color, higher level shapes being able to tell what another shape is by merely looking at them  and noticing how their sides fade.

Introduction

I am creating this blog as an explanation on flatland, for those whom are not from here, and an explanation for spaceland, for those that are. I am a hexagon of the noble class living in flatland and I recently found a journal explaining that a third dimension could exist, and claiming that it does. The evidence it gives is compelling, and I will attempt to explain it as well as I can.
